Hello everyone! For today’s Fire & Grace Files release, I’ll be releasing an essay I wrote for an assignment within my Redemption course. The question asked was “which chapter impacted you the most?” while we were reading the book by Andrew Murray entitled, The Power of the Blood of Jesus. Below, you shall read my response.
While there was much more I could say on the book itself, we were limited to a certain number of words for the essay, so I had to be brief. However, I hope you take the time to read the book yourself if and when you get a chance.
While reading “The Power of the Blood of Jesus” by Andrew Murray, the chapter that impacted me the most was Chapter 10. Granted, this chapter was pretty much the culmination of the entire book, but some parts within the chapter related to me on an intrinsic and personal level, and I hope to explore and explain those parts to you below. I also hope to speak about what I’ve learned from this chapter, due to those personal impact points.
The thing that stood out to me most was when Murray began to talk about the testimonies of two different believers and how different their beliefs were. The first testimony he discussed really hit home for me, as it’s always been difficult for me to explain my hope in Jesus in a meaningful manner. I have and would have given the exact same response when questioned, that being, “Well, I think that I strive my best to seek the Lord, and to do His will.” (Murray 65)
Imagine then, my amazement and heartfelt joy, when learning that I have more than that to lean on as a foundation to my hope in Jesus! I have a right to heaven because of the blood of Jesus! Never before have I heard this put in this manner. His blood so completely washes over me, cleanses me, sanctifies me, and covers my sin that I have earned the right to be with Him forever in heaven. I have felt and continue to feel my faith increasing from this completely new and yet simple revelation.
God’s grace has bestowed upon me the right to heaven, and the blood of the Lamb is the evidence of this right. My sins are now blotted out completely in the book of life. I can stand with the redeemed, in my own robes of white, washed in the blood of the Lamb, singing the new song before the throne. The second testimony that was shared by Murray is helpful as a visual guide to understand this in simple terms.
“Each application of His blood, each time that He causes the soul to experience its power, is a fresh outflowing of His wonderful love. The full experience of the power of the blood in eternity will be nothing else than the full revelation of how He gave Himself up for us, and gives Himself to us, in a love eternal, unending, incomprehensible-as God Himself.” (Murray 68)
This part, too, really touched me, as I can feel the truth behind the statement Murray made here. During my recent women’s ministry weekend, I experienced a fresh “outflowing of His wonderful love”. There were several times that I can recall vividly, where God seemed to ask me to look around at all the women worshiping Him, and to take it in. I felt His love not only for me in those moments, but for them too. And if that is anything like what heaven will be… Well, then, I am beyond glad to have learned that through the blood of Jesus, I have the right to be there to enjoy it, for all eternity.
Thank you, Fire & Grace School of Ministry, for having this book be a part of our experience in learning more about God. The understanding I have now about repentance, sanctification, cleansing, the blotting out of sins, and all the rest that the blood of Jesus works within us, and for us, is truly a life-changing and faith-growing lesson. I can see now that a lot of my understanding of my own salvation is lacking at best, and the love I have for Jesus has only intensified because of this lesson.
As you can see, reading this book by Andrew Murray really helped me to understand my own salvation through Christ and the power that is held within that salvation. To understand it more, I again encourage you to read the book on your own. Be sure to get the version that is “The Power of the Blood of Jesus” and do not deviate from that title, as I cannot guarantee that any other title would be the same book that I read myself.
Also, be sure to share your thoughts on learning that you too have a right to be in heaven because of the blood of Jesus washing away your sins. For me, it impacted me greatly to learn this truth.
Thank you again for reading!
God Bless you and keep you!
