Yield: 6 Cups
Author: Jess Dobbs
Cost: $30 for Two Batches

Equipment

  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting Board
  • 1 Food Processor Use a cheese grater if you don't have a food processor.
  • 1 Measuring Cup
  • 1 Jar To store the final product in.

Materials

  • 2 5 oz Castile Bar of Soap (I used Dr. Bronner's Lavender Pure-Castile Bar Soap.)
  • 3 Cups Washing Soda
  • 2 Cups Borax

Instructions

  • Cut (or grate) the Castile Bars of Soap into smaller chunks, about the size of a quarter.
  • Place cut up Castile Soap into your food processer, and pulse for at least 1 minute, or until the soap chunks look like crumbs.
  • Add the washing soda to the food processor, and pulse again for at least 1 minute, to combine the soda and the soap crumbs together well.
  • Pour this mixture into your final jar, and add the borax. Using a spoon, mix both your soap mix and borax together well.

How to Use

  • For Top Load Washers:
Add 1/8 of a Cup (2 Tablespoons) of the Laundry Detergent per load directly to the washer basin/drum. Then add your clothes. Wash as normal on warm or hot water for best use of the soap.
  • For Front Loaders or High Efficiency Machines:
Use 1 Tablespoon of the mixture directly to your machine. Then add your clothes. Wash as normal on warm or hot water for best use of the soap.

Storage

  • Store in a container with a lid for up to 12 months at room temperature.

Notes

I used a 1 Gallon glass jar to store my Laundry Detergent in, as I plan to make 2 batches at once going forward. 1 batch fillsĀ  just less than half of the jar, and leaves leftover washing soda and borax.
